General Skilled Migration Program to be cut back

Today 16/3/2009 the Minister of Immigration Chris Evans announced immediate reductions to Australia's skilled migration program this is in response to the economic slowdown. The skilled program for the current year (ending 30 June 2009) is to be cut by 18,500, from a planned total of 133,500 to 115,000.

Although the detail of how this is to carried out is still not known, we believe that this is going to be achieved by the removal of certain trade skills from the Critical Skills List. The Critical Skills list was introduced from January 2009 in order to facilitate the priority processing of applications for skilled visas.

At Migrate2oz we continue to encourage individuals to consider obtaining State Sponsorship as this will enable your application to be treated with priority.

If you are considering lodging a skilled migration application or have already lodged an application and require the services of a migration agent please contact us for an assessment of your circumstances.
